Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders
I found this recipe about a year ago when I was planning foods for a baby shower. These little sandwiches were gone in seconds; and everyone wanted the recipe (which I would love to claim as my own delicious invention but alas it is adapted from The Seasoned Mom blog). These are decadent little sandwiches that blow traditional finger sandwiches out of the park! This recipe makes 24 sliders.
Preparation Time: 20 Minutes
Cook Time: 30 Minutes, until warmed through and golden brown.
Ingredients:
2 packages King’s Hawaiian Rolls
Mayonnaise (enough to spread on each roll)
24 Slices of Turkey (Small, you’re putting these on a Hawaiian roll).
24 Slices of cooked Bacon. (Again, small slices so you can put it on the roll).
12 Slices of Gruyere cheese
1/2 Cup Grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 Cup diced pimientos (They sell these jarred in most grocery stores).
1/2 Cup butter
4 Tablespoons finely chopped onion
4 Tablespoons brown sugar
3 Teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 Teaspoon garlic powder
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Spread mayo on each roll
- Layer each roll with turkey, bacon, pimientos, and half a slice of cheese.
- Place sandwiches in a single layer in a large baking dish (or two 9-inch square baking dishes).
- In a small pan, melt butter. Add onion and cook until tender and translucent (about 2 minutes).
- Into pan, whisk in brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder until dissolved.
- Pour this delicious sauce over the sandwiches.
- Bake covered for about 25 minutes or until warmed.
- Remove cover and bake additional 5 minutes to brown the tops.
If you need to, you may make the sandwiches ahead of time and refrigerate covered for a few hours until you are ready to bake them. I generally just make them right before the event because I worry they might become too soggy to eat without utensils, and they don’t usually take me very long to throw together.
For a bit of variation, you might also top a few with a nice slice of tomato.
